Title: Shift Supervisor
Department: Manufacturing
Reporting To: Production Manager
Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to Supervise and control production and technical activities in a busy manufacturing environment ensuring that all products are manufactured to the highest quality standards and in accordance with company procedures and work instructions.
Monitor and, when necessary, take appropriate corrective action to maintain machines and equipment to ensure optimum levels of safety and output.
To supervise, liaise, train, motivate and take appropriate action, when necessary, in the management of staff performance. Control raw materials in and out of the department.
Principal Accountabilities
Quality
1. Maintain high quality levels while promoting a quality-focused culture among the team.
2. Ensure that all product is manufactured to the highest quality standards and in accordance with company procedures.
3. Liaise with Quality department staff to ensure our own and customer standards are realised.
4. Ensure all relevant documentation is completed as per company procedures.
5. Complete corrective action reports in a timely manner.
6. Maintain and promote high standards in house keeping.
Productivity / Output
1. Ensure all tasks are carried out in accordance with the relevant work instructions for that task.
2. Ensure all products are manufactured in accordance with the required company quality standards.
3. Assist your direct manager in continuous improvement by means of new ideas and involvement in continuous improvement projects.
4. Support, carry out and / or be involved in any training programmes requested by your direct manager that involves your attendance.
5. Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the company policy in regard to health and safety.
6. Record and report any issues / changes that may have an adverse effect on the company's objectives to your direct manager.
7. Liase with other dept as necessary.
8. Maintain company facilities, plant and equipment to an appropriate standard.
9. Record and report on departmental K.P.I.'s on a weekly and monthly basis.
10. To schedule every work centre in your department ensuring that the schedule reflects the production plan.
11. Achieving production plan/targets on a continual base.
12. Prioritise work as changes occur throughout the shift period.
13. Record accurate production and scrap figures.
14. Reduce reject production levels and identify problematic processes.
15. Resolve record and report any process issues/changes that may arise on your shift.
16. Ensure all materials/consumables required for production are in place and downtime is not caused as a result of absent materials or shortfalls.
17. Carry out thorough shift change over with outgoing and incoming shifts where appropriate.
Human Resources
1. Adhere to company policies.
2. Maintain dignity and respect within the work place.
3. Promote and support a teamwork culture within the department.
4. Insure you and your staff adhere to company health and safety policies, procedures and instructions.
5. Identify, plan and manage the training requirements of all operators in your department in line with overall company requirements.
6. Carry out operator performance reviews in line with company policy.
7. Where required carry out disciplinary meetings with your staff in line with company policy.
8. Support departmental manager in the hiring of staff.
9. Monitor and control absenteeism and late arrivals.
