The Mechanical Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all commercial, residential and industrial heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and fire suppression equipment and their systems are in compliance with established codes, laws and regulations.
Inspects, through the use of visual observation and mechanical testing equipment, installations and alterations to commercial, residential and industrial heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and fire suppression equipment (HVAC) and their systems in order to assure compliance with the established mechanical and energy codes.
Responds to questions from contractors, architects, building owners and the public regarding mechanical codes and their enforcement.
Knowledge of mechanical codes and ordinances for the Gulf.
Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems.
Knowledge of the hazards of the mechanical trades and the safety precautions necessary to prevent them.
Examines and approves plans and specifications for proposed heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and fire suppression equipment installations and alterations.
Prepare reports and maintain records of completed work.
Detect and locate mechanical defects.
Read and interpret construction and mechanical blueprints, drawings, and diagrams.
