Job Description for (Environmental Specialist) :
Job Purpose : Responsible for monitoring environmental requirements compliance for the organization and serve as a local license with regulatory authorities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Applicable Laws:
Track, and identify applicable laws & regulations with specific emphasize on Air & Water Quality, Noise levels and solid & hazardous waste to evaluate the potential impact of these laws on the operations of Marafiq's facilities.
Scope of Work: Review scope of work related to environment for new projects to ensure developing processes to handle environmental matters including storage and disposal of waste.
Emergency Response: Support the environment activities through close monitoring and to develop emergencies response plans to ensure minimum damages.
Reporting: Preparing a compliance status report on whether regulations and requirements are being met to ensure informing Marafiq's management and the concerned parties.
Environmental Studies & EPO: Carry out appropriate studies along with the environment consultants to stay abreast with 'best practice' in environment regionally and internationally and recommending appropriate policies.
Cost Control: Monitor the financial performance of his area of operation versus budgets
Policies & Procedures: Recommend improvements to departmental procedure and direct the implementation of instructions and controls covering a specific area of environmental activity so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled.
Safety, Quality & Environment: Ensure compliance to all relevant safety, quality and environmental management procedures and controls within a defined area of environmental activity to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high quality products/service and a responsible environmental attitude.
Job Context: The jobholder needs to collaborate closely with the other functions in Marafiq to be able to deliver proper execution of Environment regulations. The job is required to solve non-reoccurring problems using own knowledge and experience. The jobholder has to lead the initiatives and plans to increase the awareness on the importance of environmental and implement plans for achievement. The job holder must execute any additional tasks assigned to him by his superior.
Minimum Qualifications:
University degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Sciences.
Minimum Experience:
8 years' engineering or project management experience in a heavy industrial or utilities environment.
3 - 5 years' environmental engineering experience.
Experience of managing/costing projects involving external contractors.
1 - 2 years' project costing experience involving the use of relevant software.
Experience of technical evaluation of design options.
Job-Specific Skills:
Skilled in the use of engineering costing software and demonstrating capability of making optimal use of the software to achieve assignment requirements.
Deep knowledge of all relevant local and international environmental standards, regulations, legislation and codes of practice, especially ISO 14000.
Skilled in carrying out post-implementation environmental impact audits.
Broad understanding of project cash flow management techniques.
